My dad always said, “The only thing in life we have is family.” The older I get the more I realize how much depth that statement actually has. My mother is a Jehovah’s Witness, my brother and sister are as well, however, my dad and I aren’t really… anything. Not to say that I don’t believe in anything, more of the fact that I do not worship anything. For me, family is my faith. It’s something that you can’t quite get rid of, that judges you as you are and loves you unconditionally, kinda like god, except they are there. They, on the other hand, believe that there is something beyond what we have now, a life after this life. A life of peace and happiness and rainbows and gumdrops and… yeah you get the sarcasm. I envy that sort of faith, that idea of believing without seeing (I mean you could call it gullibility or cat fishing). Either way, it’s having something to look forward to. We as humans tend to take for granted what we have (you’re probably different and poop glitter but this is a general statement and isn’t about you). I know I’m guilty of it, I constantly challenge authority. I’m like a dog, if I can take just one inch… I should be able to take another and another until I knock you right off! Ha, fool!

So, here’s my thought, if you’re going to take advantage of something, take advantage of your family and your close friends. Take advantage of the love, the kindness, and the warmth in their hearts. Family get-togethers tend to be a lot more difficult when you don’t have holidays forcing you together. Although, it makes you find time. That, “ugh, I have to see my family on Christmas” turns into, “I haven’t seen my family in a while and I miss them”. Trust me when I say that they do not stick around forever. I hear it from my grandmother, she’s the last of her friends and immediate family, it’s quite sad (that took a dreary turn). So enjoy this time, family is a total pain in the ass, but they are just like you. Fighting? Squash that beef (I think that’s what the kids say). Family forgives, it’s kind of a thing.
